After carefully considering the most recent Government guidance regarding the opening of schools and academies following the COVID 19 pandemic, staff at Newquay Junior Academy have debated the start and finish times for each year group continuously. On reflection, we believe that our pupils safety will be better managed by allowing our Year 3 pupils to leave the academy premises with a named, trusted adult during the first departure slot of 2.40pm to 2.45pm.
Arrival times and Departure times.
The table above indicates arrival and departure slots for each year group. This is to ensure that large groups of children and parents are not coming into contact when dropping off or picking up their child. Parents may come on to the academy premises to collect their child from the Muga or playground in the usual way. However, we ask parents to consider the option of allowing their child to walk home or to a convenient meeting place. Parents must consider the risks and the safety of their child before they allow them to walk home or to a convenient meeting place. We kindly ask the parents of Year 4, 5 and 6 pupils to complete the attached form to indicate if their child will be collected or allowed to walk home unaccompanied. We still insist that Year 3 pupils are collected from the Muga at the end of each day.
In order for the staggered arrival times to work we ask parents to ensure that they drop off their child at their allocated time. Pupils must walk straight to their classrooms. They are not allowed to play on the playground before the start of the academy day. Parents can drop off at their chosen gate. This can be at the front or back of the academy. This is to allow more space for dropping off so that large groups of people are not gathering in one place. Teachers will be in their classrooms by 8.30am. If your child arrives late to the academy and the gates are locked, your child must report to the academy office. However, to keep our office staff safe and to avoid the numbers of people visiting the academy office, we cannot emphasise enough the importance of arriving at the academy during your allocated time.
Each year group has 5 minutes to dismiss their pupils. In order for the staggered dismissal times to work effectively, it is vitally important that parents are not late when collecting their child. However, in the event of an emergency and you know that you are going to be late to collect your child, then please contact the academy office on 01637 874543 as soon as possible.
If you have 2 or more children in different year groups, please drop them off with the child who has the earliest time slot. We kindly ask that you contact the academy on the first day back in September if you would like your children in different year groups to leave at the same time at the end of the academy day. Our learning support staff will take your child to join their siblings and they will all be dismissed at the same time.
If you are a Year 3 parent, you must collect your child from the Muga. The Muga is the green astroturf that is surrounded by a green fence and is located at the rear of the academy. Please use the green gate only. Our Year 3 pupils will be lined up at the back of the Muga, against the green fence. Please feel free to enter the Muga from 2.30pm. In order to keep our staff and community safe, we kindly ask that you maintain the social distancing rule of one meter plus and do not progress any closer than the half way line marked on the astroturf. A Newquay Junior Academy member of staff will make eye contact with you and dismiss your child to you. If you wish to speak to your child’s class teacher, then you must make an appointment through the academy office by calling 01637 874543 or using email@example.com
If you are a Year 4, 5 or 6 parent and you have made the decision to collect your child from the academy, you must collect your child from the large playground located at the rear of the academy. Please use the grey gate only. Year 4,5 and 6 pupils will be lined up on the large playground at the allocated dismissal time which can be found in the table above. Please feel free to enter the large playground at your allotted time. In order to keep our staff and community safe, we kindly ask that you maintain the social distancing rule of one meter plus and do not progress any closer than the line of cones placed across the playground. A Newquay Junior Academy member of staff will make eye contact with you and dismiss your child to you. If you wish to speak to your child’s class teacher, then you must make an appointment through the academy office by calling 01637 874543 or using firstname.lastname@example.org
There will be no assemblies in the first half term. This may be changed in the second half term but only when we have received further guidance from the government. We will continue to award yellow certificates, medals, times tables rock stars certificates etc on Friday afternoons.
