The Executive Chair of Governors of the Newquay Education Trust, Mrs Sarah Karkeek, has become a National Leader of Governors.
The National Leader of Governors, NLG, is part of the government’s plan to give schools a central role in developing a self-improving and sustainable school-led system. It is awarded to experienced chair of governors and to ones that are interested in supporting chairs of governors in other schools.
Since becoming the Chair of Governors at Tretherras in 2013, Mrs Karkeek has seen Newquay Junior and Tretherras become a Multi-Academy Trust, now known as the Newquay Education Trust (NET) and seen the school benefit from the government’s second phase of the Priority School Building Programme, where an estimated £15 million will be invested in a new school building.
Mrs Karkeek, also an accomplished teacher and the Founding Director of Happy Days Nurseries, commented, ‘It’s a fantastic honour and opportunity. I hope that the expertise and knowledge we have as a NET governing body will continue to make Newquay Junior and Newquay Tretherras successful and that our skills can assist others.’
