Dear Parents and Carers Re: Newquay Education Trust (NET) News.
Firstly, I would like to wish you and your families a very Happy New Year! There have been a number of developments and successes for both NET Academies recently and I thought the new year would be a good time to update everyone.
As NJA parents will know we’re very excited to be approaching the completion of a brand new Hall which will provide much needed Arts and Sports facilities for the pupils. Thank you to all staff and families for your patience over the build. It has not been easy, but I know it will be worthwhile. There will be an official opening in March. The new rebuild at Tretherras is also approaching and we will host a scoping visit shortly to agree the time frame for what we believe will be virtually a brand new academy replacing the old 1950’s block.
Last term we were delighted that the South West Regional Schools Commissioner approved NET to become a sponsor for other schools who may require additional support following an OFSTED Inspection. When Mrs. Martin and I met him, he was very impressed with the academic record of both academies, the quality of teaching and learning and by the energy and commitment of the staff and governance of NET. We have secured a grant of over £60K for setting up our sponsor capacity arrangements. This news is most definitely a vote of confidence in us as a Trust.
We are now in a position to grow NET and I am delighted to announce that Mrs. Martin will now change roles to become our Chief Executive Officer in order to build the Trust and expand the number of schools joining us. We are conscious of the shortage of primary school places in Newquay due to growth and Mrs. Martin will be exploring potential solutions with the Board and in partnership with local Academy Trusts. Mr. Reep will take over as operational Headteacher of NJA and Mrs Fairbairn will take over as operational Headteacher of NT. Mrs. Martin will continue to be very closely involved in both academies and will work closely with both Heads to ensure their continued success and development. This arrangement will be reviewed by the Board in Summer 2017.
There are exciting times and challenges ahead. I wish to reassure you that NET’s Board of Directors, its Leadership Teams and I will strive to ensure that the children and students in our academies come first, that they become the best they can be, and achieve their highest potential: this will always be at the forefront of our actions.
Please do not hesitate to contact me or Mrs. Martin, via Mrs Barnes our Clerk to the Board, either by e-mail: tlb@newquayeducationtrust.net or by telephone 01637 872080 if you have any queries or concerns.
Yours sincerely
MRS SARAH KARKEEK
Chair of Newquay Education Trust
