Parent Teacher Association

Greetings from the PTA!

The Newquay Junior Academy PTA are a group of parents, carers and teachers who meet every half term throughout the year to plan and organise fundraising events, and ways in which the academy community can be supported.

All parents/carers of pupils at NJA are automatically members of the PTA from when their child enters Year 3, as well as the hard working members of staff! This does not mean that we are expected 300+ families to attend PTA meetings but rather keep in touch through the social media page on Facebook or if you have a little time to spare around events, there are always tasks that need an extra pair of hands. For example: taking event admissions, serving teas/coffees at a car boot sale, preparing disco bags or hunting down raffle prizes.

We realise that time is precious so do not want to add pressure on you, however if you decided to become a more active member of the group, you are more than welcome to join in on our meetings. The current chairperson for the PTA is Mrs Sian Nicholls (Head of Year 4 and class teacher) the treasurer is Mrs Debbie Cheadle (key worker and lunchtime supervisor) and Mrs Susie Raab (parent) is currently our secretary.

Each year, the PTA fundraise in a variety of ways, which typically include: a winter and spring disco, a summer fayre, a Christmas fayre, refreshments at sports days and music events and competitions for the pupils to enter. These differ year on year depending on the availability in the academy calendar.

Each term, every year group in the academy make a bid for funds that the PTA have raised. 2019-2020 purchases have included:

  • An additional playground shed with £500 worth of equipment
  • Printed running t-shirts for the Y6 running club
  • A set of goal posts for the field
  • A PTA shed to enable us to store equipment and serve refreshments
  • 2 class sets of clipboards with storage boxes
  • 4 events shelter for sports days/summer shade
  • Scrapstore card to enable NJA to access a wealth of resources
  • Parentkind membership
  • A contribution to the Y4 visit to Shelterbox, Truro
  • Y5 t-shirts for their South American artwork
