PLEASE KEEP THIS FOR YOUR RECORDS

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome your child into Year 3 and give you some information about the year ahead.

During the year your child will be studying the core subjects (Maths, English, Science and computing) with History, Geography, Fitness. and R.E covered in class. Foundation subjects like Design Technology, Art, French, Music and PE will be covered weekly during Academy Afternoons. These will be led by skilled teacher teams to ensure the children are taught to the highest standards by specialised teachers wherever possible. Some of the main areas of study this term are as follows:

TERM 1 – Light, Magnets, Harvest Festival, ICT skills and e-safety and Christmas Production.

Please could all children bring in a named working torch for the 1st half term.

Routines: Many of these details are covered in the information handbook your child received when they first joined Year 3 and on our website (www.newquayjunior.com), but more specific detail is included below.

PE: PE slots are flexible because of weather and hall availability, therefore please ensure your child has a named PE kit left in school every day.

Reading: Please read with your child at least five times a week. Record and sign their Reading Record Book each time. Everytime your child reads for 5 days, they will process around our challenge boards and those children who read as requested receive a reward at the end of term.

Spellings: Your child will receive a set of spellings every Monday.

(Please put all letters and spelling worksheets inside the reading record book for safekeeping.)

Times Tables: Please help your child learn their tables by chanting or singing the tables with them. It is far more effective for children to learn tables if the whole number phrases are spoken aloud.

We hope the children will learn their x2, x5 and x10 tables first, then move onto x3, x4 and x11, followed by x6, x8 and x9s then the x7 and x12. Each time they complete a section they will receive a certificate.

These websites are very helpful . They provide fun games and activities to help children learn times tables;

Parents and Carers’ Pop-in Evening; We will have an informal pop-in evening later in the term for you to chat with your child’s teacher and ask anything else necessary. We hope to see you then. Details to follow.

Please keep this information safe and let us know that you have received this letter by completing and returning the slip below.

Thank you very much,

Yours sincerely,

The Year Three Team. (Miss Robinson, Miss Gathercole, Mr Hoswell, Mrs. Morgan, Mrs Reep and
