Year 4 ICT – Archive

In the first half of the Summer term year 4 have been working with Photoshop. They took images of each other using a camera indifferent poses ready for their shipwrecked comic story. They also collected backgrounds of deserted islands and
images of items they would need for their photo comic story, all of these were searched as copyright free images and were saved for later use. The images were then opened in Photoshop and using the lasso tool they cut around the chosen image and the copied
these onto a blank page, they also learnt about the difference between JPEG, PSD, and PNG formats. Then the images were copied onto their chosen desert island ready to insert into their photo comic strips. Year 4 also watched and completed booklets on the
PLAY, LIKE, SHARE lessons that help them to understand what to share and what not to share online, enjoying watching the SELFIE band and working through their dilemmas.

 


This half term in ICT year 4 have looked at the history of animation and then used 2 animate to produce an animation of a volcano, this was then inserted into a powerpoint presentation on facts about volcanos as well as inserting their animation they also added good and interesting facts, added sound effects, narration, GIFS, and hyperlinks they then added animations and slide transitions to improve the look of the presentation. Whilst making their presentations they also started to use spell check and changed several words using thesaurus. Year 4 discussed copyright and plagiarism and learnt how to use split screens when searching for relevant information that is suitable for KS2.

Year 4 also looked into what makes a computer network and we went on a network hunt around NJA. Safe searching was our online safety theme and they took part in a safe searching activity. In the last few weeks of the term year 4 pupils created Deadly 60 posters of their chosen deadly 60 animal creating amazing backgrounds and exploring formatting text and shape boxes.

This term Year 4 have been learning to build, add to and search a database. Whilst using their Spy Kids theme they built a database on criminal suspects. These databases were used to explore and create graph work, answer questions using ‘and, or’ They were given the opportunity to test out each other’s database questions.

Year 4 have also been looking at Algorithms and procedures, moving on from previous knowledge they were able to create an Algorithm on how to make a cup of tea. We then made it more difficult by having to think about a decision box we used “Do you want sugar?” and this led to the children creating their own decision algorithms.

Then onto Logo using FMS logo, the children have explored writing command to move their turtle around the screen, they have had great fun creating shapes of different sizes and colours. They have learnt commands such as Fd, Bk, Rt, Lt, cs, pu, pd, setpc, repeat and fill. They have also had to know shapes angles to help with their commands. They have explored using repeat and procedure to make some amazing spiral and snowflake shapes.
