Year 5: Luxulyan Valley adventure

Year 5 went on a real adventure this week! They travelled by train and explored the beautiful and historic Luxulyan Valley. They investigated the fascinating industrial workings, including the impressive wheel pit. Today’s group heard from Dick Cole who is the Heritage Sites Officer at Cornwall Heritage Trust. He showed them the latest work, renovation of a ‘crib hut’, and the base of a crane that would have been used to load trucks with granite from the quarry. Following on from our class text, ‘The Explorer’, they built and tested their own rafts as if they were attempting to sail down to Manaus on the Amazon themselves.
