Year 6 Activities Week

Year 6 Activities Week

Day 1 of our Year 6 Activity week saw the pupils experience the contrast between a morning showing of The Super Mario Brothers movie at the Lighthouse Cinema and an afternoon beach day. After enjoying the movie, we walked down onto Towan beach for lunch, before starting our sand sculpture competition. A quick game of Down Ball gave Mrs Harwood and Mrs Woad time to do the judging of a closely fought event with turtles, seals, dolphins and even Mario himself vying for the top spot. As you can see, there was some brilliant work done in the sunshine.

We then took advantage of the low tide to walk North to Tolcarne to explore the rockpools. There were plenty of large female shore crabs hiding in the sand, under the crevasses; each holding hundreds of eggs under their broad abdomens. We saw Beadlet, Snakelocks and Strawberry Anemones and were also able to compare blennies and gobies before returning to school.

On Tuesday, we visited Cornwall BMX Racing Club at Blackwater. Tracey, our British Cycling coach, put the groups through their paces. As the pupils gained in confidence, she increased the challenge level, until most were able to complete a full lap of the track. There was a myriad of successes as well as a few spills! Thankfully, everyone was able to dust themselves off and carry on.

The final day of our fun-packed week started with a game of giant handball, followed by a lovely visit to Newquay Zoo. Some of the pupils learned to use a DSLR camera to take photos of their favourite animals and the Tarzan Trail was completed without a foot touching the ground.

Then it was back off to school for pupils to make their own pizza with Mr Cubeddu before a grand finale water fight on the field.

It has been a fun, but tiring week for the pupils but they all agree they have had a great time. Thank you to everyone who has been involved.
