Dear Parent/Carer,
Welcome back to all of our Year 6 Learners. We are very excited about the year ahead.
We feel that for your child to develop his/her full potential it is essential that teachers and parents work together towards a common goal. We hope we can rely on your full support and that you feel free to contact us at any point.
Your child will be studying all of the National Curriculum’s core subjects: English, Maths, Science, and Information & Communication Technology, together with the foundation subjects: History, Geography, Art, Design Technology, Music, P.E., R.E., and P.S.H.E. During the summer term Yr 6 will have the opportunity to go to London or to take part in Activity Week (more information to come).
Topics: AUTUMN TERM – World War ll /All Living Things & How We See Things
SPRING TERM – Ancient Egypt/Animals & Electricity
SUMMER TERM – Secondary Transition / Dissolving & Evolution
Throughout this year children from year 6 are taken to local sites for specific studies. These are always teacher supervised, covered by the Academy’s policy of insurance and take place during the academy day. Visits away from Newquay or outside the academy day will require separate consent forms being sent to you.
Parent’s Role
Numeracy and literacy homework will be set as appropriate. This year numeracy homework will be set and completed on the MyMaths website (more information to come). A homework grid will be sent home at the beginning of each term where pupils have a choice of tasks. Please ensure that your child completes their homework to a high standard and that reading is recorded in the reading diaries.
Reading – It is essential that you encourage your child to read at home for a minimum of 15 minutes per day. Books are always available on loan from our academy library. We ask that parents monitor and sign their child’s reading record as appropriate.
P.E. Kit – Please ensure your child has a white T-shirt, black shorts and suitable trainers (tracksuit type clothing is welcome for colder days). Long hair will need to be tied back for safety. It would be advisable to keep your child’s P.E. kit in the academy all week.
Mobile Phones – These are allowed in the academy but must be given to the class teacher for safe keeping during academy hours and should only be turned on once pupils have left the premises.
Drinking Water – Your child needs to have access to regular drinking water throughout the day, so please ensure they bring their water bottle. Replacement bottles can be bought from the office for £1.
Attendance – We would also like to stress the need for a telephone call to the academy office 01637 874543 on the morning of absence. Any unauthorised, unnotified absences are registered.
Dinner Money – If your child would like to have dinner or tuck, please ensure that your child’s on-line ParentPay account is kept in credit.
Lost Property – Clothing and belongings should be NAMED so that they can be returned safely if lost.
SATs – Please note that the Key Stage 2 SATs for Yr 6 pupils will take place during the week beginning 9th May 2016. Attendance is imperative leading up to and during this week.
If you have any concerns please do not hesitate in contacting your child’s classteacher:
