History, geography and science at Porth Island

8th November 2023

3WM Porth Island Visit, stepping back to the Iron and Bronze Ages, as part of their geography, history and science work.

As we approached the island, pupils completed a mapping exercise, using grid references and identifying the features on maps and satellite images. Pupils were able to test the fortifications to see how the island would have been defended in the event of an attack and they also got to see how metals are extracted from ores using charcoal.

The day was made even better when the large waves and incoming tide caused ‘Dragon’s breath’ at the spectacular Porth Island blowhole. There were many loud gasps of delight!
